1. Think Retail!

Create a strong retail area, make your products shine and ’think retail’.  Look at the high street stores and what the experts do for advice and guidance.

2. Get Creative!

From the outside in! Focus on your shop front! The most creative industry should have the most creative windows. Enter our window competition and you'll be in with the chance to win £500 worth of Cloud Nine products and to have your salon featured on our blog to over 100,000 readers.

3. Upsell!

4. Incentivise your team!

Selling isn’t just about profit, selling is about customer retention, customer satisfaction and customer service. They WANT to buy from you. But, It’s essential that you have buy-in from your team and that there is a joint incentive. This could begin with a ‘kickback’ or profit share on sales for your stylists, or take the form of a special prize for the stylists who’s sold the most over the Christmas period! The team are much more likely to get involved and enthused if there's a benefit for them!

5. Add Value

More than 80% of Women are interested in free hair consultations and follow ups, take advantage of this and create a returning offer for a free consultation or demonstration with all retail products purchased at Christmas. This will drive value and focus on getting clients back through your door in January - a quieter time of year in salon.

6. Focus on customer experience

With 73% of Women interested in ‘social’ or ‘group’ hair experiences and 60% interested in later appointment times, Salons should innovate to create events or fun evenings for clients (and this will allow you to retail, too!). Pre-Party Prep evenings, where you can educate users how to create party looks and demonstrate how to use tools are the perfect opportunity to take advantage of this trend. Ask your clients to bring in what they currently use and get your stylists to advise accordingly. Remember, you’re the experts!

7. Make it EASY!

Always have a clear price for customers to see, so customers don’t have to ask. That way, you're remove any barriers to purchase.

8. Set your goals!

Have a retail objective and plan for your busiest period.  What is your focus? And what would you like to achieve? Make all your services and retail count. With a clear goal, achieving it will be much easier.

9. Reward & Encourage Loyalty

Offer loyal and repeat customers additional offers on your retail to show them your appreciation. Don't forget new customers, too. It's is especially important to encourage loyalty accross these customers, as research shows that once a customer visits a salon 3 times, they’ll stay loyal for the next 2 years. So, focus on getting them back through to door as this early stage and ensure you've got a plan to keep them coming back!

10. Profit from YOUR expert knowledge

Don’t forget how much customers trust a stylist’s recommendation.  YOU are the professional and YOU are the expert, that’s invaluable for customers!
