In the Chair with Jason Crozier
Creative, kinder styling is a passion shared by many - we caught up with Jason Crozier, renowned session stylist, editors’ favourite, and Creative Director at CrozNest.
1. Tell us about your career?
I am a London based session stylist represented by Soho Management. My work has featured in magazines such as Vogue, GQ, Harpers Bazaar and Elle.
The buzz of fashion week is the highlight of my calendar and I have worked backstage at shows for the last 5 years in London, New York, Milan and Paris. Those few weeks of the season really keep me inspired and on trend for my editorial shoots.
My session work has led me to build my own company, CrozNest. As Creative Director, I deliver fashion integrity to our partnered brands and advise these brandby highlighting current fashion trends and providing education. This enables them to offer trend-led services to clients.
2. How would you describe your style?
Over the years, I have worked with some amazingly talented hairdressers that have helped me to master my own style – giving hair an organic, tactile finish. I was schooled by session supremos including the master of silk spun hair, Wendy Isles and the incredibly cool Yannick D’s. My ethos is to produce desirable hair that’s fresh and current.
3. What trends did you see across the fashion weeks this season?
Trends were a cross between drawn back hassle- free ponytails, and loose, wavy tresses. For all looks, the hair was the shiny ‘cherry on top’ - condition and gloss really matter.
My ‘buzz words’ for this season are Youthful, Playful and Poetic.
4. What tips do you have for creating these trends?
Condition matters with these styles as they are relaxed and playful.
I suggest starting with a good prep spray to give the hair a lustrous finish and light hold. A blow-dry with Phyto VolumeActif spray is perfect for this as it has great hold that won’t weigh the hair down, its botanical ingredients ensure the hairs’ condition reaches its full potential.
Keeping a simple and poetic edge to the styles relies on not over working the hair and becoming too set and formed.
The Cloud Nine Waving Wand is the perfect tool to create a wave, looser and more reminiscent of ‘yesterday’s set’. The results leave you with the perfect texture to leave hair loose and secure one of this season’s hot ponytail trends.
5. What are you working on next?
I have been working on some amazing projects this year, which will be seen in A/W15. I am looking forward to seeing what the new season shows will bring.
Alongside my busy schedule, I am working with my CrozNest collective to produce video campaigns and film content for our clients and the BarnetWatch blog. I am incredibly fortunate to work alongside a number of great artists who continue to inspire me – the favourite part of being a creative for me is the collaborations.
